Ladies 1s beat Spencer
Great result for ladies 1s
Basingstoke Ladies 1s sponsored by KJ Smith solicitors faced tough opposition in the form of Spencer this week. Both teams started brightly, exchanging attacks. Basingstoke won a number of penalty corners and were awarded a penalty stroke when their shot hit a player on the line. Captain Catriona Bausor held her nerve and expertly dispatched her flick into the net to open the scoring. Spencer were down, but definitely not out. They implemented an excellent press to apply lots of pressure on Basingstoke. They were rewarded in the second half when a Spencer player carried the ball along the baseline and found a teammate at the far post who scored the equaliser. Spencer committed large numbers in attack; however Basingstoke worked hard to match them in defence. Goal keeper Gemma Carswell earned her man of the match award with a number of cracking saves. It was Basingstoke who broke the deadlock with Roxy O’Dea firing home a wonderful penalty corner strike. Just 3 minutes later they extended their lead through another penalty corner, this time Catriona Bausor scoring from close range. With only 5 minutes left to play Spencer could not get back in the game and Basingstoke protected their 3-1 lead till the final whistle.
