Basingstoke Ladies 1s sponsored by KJS Solicitors, aim to play fast, flowing and entertaining hockey every game. This week injuries to the umpire, players and problems with the pitch all conspired to slow and interrupt the game; however, Basingstoke took this in their stride and showed their passion throughout. Basingstoke attacked the Tulse Hill & Dulwich defence at pace, making numerous entries into the circle. Great team interplay delivered the ball to Claire Bowman who opened the scoring with a wonderful reverse stick shot. Tulse Hill & Dulwich bounced back equalising through a penalty corner. Basingstoke thought they had taken the lead through Catriona Bausor's penalty corner shot; however the goal was disallowed for a suspected red foot in the circle. Basingstoke quickly won another penalty corner, this time Roxy O'Dea's powerful shot hit the backboard. Controversy continued as man of the match Claire Bowman was bundled to the ground just in front of goal. After a few moments, that felt like minutes, the umpire awarded a penalty stroke which Claire swiftly despatched. Tulse Hill & Dulwich kept their hope alive by scoring a second penalty corner; however Basingstoke continued to dominate. Commitment all over the pitch was exemplified by the Captain Catriona Bausor who ended up diving into the crowd to keep the ball on the pitch. Once again Claire Bowman was awarded a penalty stroke, this time her stick was blocked as she was about to shoot into an empty goal. Claire fired home her hat-trick goal of the game for Basingstoke to finish 4-2 winners.
