Basingstoke Ladies 1s 2 - Reading 2s 0
By Alice Lane
Good result for ladies 1s
The game started slowly with both teams finding it hard to keep possession. Basingstoke had an early scare when Reading found the back of the net; however the goal was disallowed for an obvious 'back of the stick'. As the game progressed Basingstoke increased their intensity and showed their dominance with long periods of pressure on the Reading goal. Basingstoke won numerous penalty corners, one of which was excellently executed allowing Catriona Bausor to score her first goal just before half time. During the break coach, Lisa Scarborough, made superb tactical changes for Basingstoke to nullify Reading's key players. Only two minutes into the second half Catriona Bausor picked up the ball at right midfield, carried it all the way to the far left hand side of the goal where she pulled off an outrageous reverse stick shot into the top right hand corner of the goal to double Basingstoke's lead. Basingstoke followed this up with attack after attack. Claire Bowman was unlucky not to get on the score sheet and man of the match Fiona Parker showed great elimination skills in the final third; however Reading defended well to deny Basingstoke a third goal. Reading never gave up and pushed hard to get a goal back; however, the Basingstoke defence worked hard to keep their clean sheet and did not concede a penalty corner throughout the whole match. Thew win sees Basingstoke move to second in the table. Next week they are away to Teddington.
