Basingstoke started at an electrifying pace with Catriona Bausor carving open the Brighton & Hove defence to open the scoring in the first few minutes of the game. Moments later, man of the match Clare Griffiths showed a cool head, slipping the ball to Roxy O'Dea when a penalty corner broke down. O'Dea calmly beat the keeper from close range to score the second goal. Accurate outletting from defence provided a platform for great interplay between the midfield and the forwards, with Catriona Bausor bursting through from midfield for the third goal. In the second half Brighton & Hove looked more positive and continued to try and attack; however, they could not break through the Basingstoke defence. Despite Brighton & Hove's defensive efforts Kirsty Kent scored twice from two successive penalty corners. Basingstoke gave a wonderful team performance, players chased after loose balls, were hungry for goals and showed bravery and commitment. Fiona Parker kept running till the end, and was rewarded with a goal from close range as she arrived at the far post just managing to squeeze the ball between the post and the keeper. The game finished an impressive 6 nil to Basingstoke. Next week Basingstoke host newly promoted Spencer HC.
