Basingstoke started very brightly making a number of attacks, but it took some time for them to convert their pressure into goals. Some good team interplay helped Basingstoke to win their second penalty corner, and a powerful strike from Roxy O'Dea opened the scoring. A lovely attack down the left hand side of the pitch opened up the Oxford defence. As the ball came across the goal Clare Griffiths made a neat upright reverse connection to score the second goal. Basingstoke went into half-time with a well deserved two goal advantage.
In the second half Oxford University applied more pressure on Basingstoke as they stretched the game; however; man of the match Steph Hazell excellently marshalled the defence. Basingstoke continued to attack and seemed quicker to the ball, this was especially evident in the third goal where the Oxford University keeper made an initial save but Fiona Parker was quickest to the loose ball and scored from close range. The result was sealed by Mel Trevaskis who worked really hard to get to the far left post, after the ball came across she lobbed the keeper scoring in the side netting.
