Reading 2s 1 - Basingstoke 3
Both teams showed flair and attacking intent in the first 15 minutes of the game, but it was Basingstoke who had the better finishing with Roxy O'Dea beating the Reading keeper from close range. Towards the end of the first half Reading had a good spell and were rewarded with a short corner which they successfully converted, going in to half time 1 all.
Basingstoke quickly redressed the balance with a goal before many of the team had even touched the ball. The Basingstoke press forced Reading into a mistake which Mel Trevaskis was quickest to pounce on, forcing the ball into the Reading goal.
Reading never stopped attacking but could not match the organisation and cohesiveness of Basingstoke. Goal keeper Gemma Carswell was always quick off her line to clear, and she made 3 amazing high saves, earning herself the man of the match accolade.
Basingstoke continued to attack and Roxy O"Dea scored her second goal with some close skills, eliminating the defence at a penalty corner to make the final score 3-1 to Basingstoke. The ladies finish the day in second place in South Division 1, and look forward to hosting league leaders Surbiton next week 11th November at 11.45.
