In a thrilling match, the ladies 2s beat Fareham 3-1. With the three Sarahs’ each scoring a goal, i.e. Sarah Mainprise, Sarah Shearing and Sarah Lemasney.
Ladies 3s returned to league action against a lower placed Haselmere 2s. This was an evenly matched game, with Haselmere scoring three goals in the first half, despite the 3s having more possession and opportunities. In the second half the ladies 3s dominated for 60 percent of the game but came up against a solid defence and a young keeper in fine form and just weren’t able to find the back of the net. A disappointing result, but a good performance by the team highlighted by player of the match Frankie Tierney.
A brilliant 3-0 win from the ladies 4’s who kicked of 2019 with a solid performance against Haslemere. The game kicked off with a slow start which can be attributed to over indulgence during the Christmas break, however, Ulrike Maier managed to secure the 4s first goal close to the end of the first half.
In the second half, both teams stepped up their game resulting in many chances for both teams. It was Saf Whitwham and Ulrike Maier who managed to secure the 4s last two goals bringing the game to a satisfactory conclusion.
The ladies 5s kicked off their 2019 game against Chichester this week, with the opposition being more dominant and aggressive in their style of play, leaving the 5s struggling to find form and step up to the challenge. Player of the match, goalkeeper Gemma Allen, stepped up to stop Chichester from scoring who had many chances and were unlucky not to convert.
The second half saw the 5s stepping up with tighter marking and better passing, allowing Sue Pett and Lyn Wood to score Basingstoke’s only goals. The latter stages of the second half saw Gemma Allen again, standing strong in goal and holding off the opposition. The game concluded with a hard fought and well deserved 2.0 win to the ladies 5s.
The U16’s ladies won their first match of the season against Alton 4-3. Goals scorers were Jess Prichard who scored two goals, with Ellie Rixon and Megan Payne securing a goal each. Player of the match went to Jasmine Payne, who had a good game playing in defence.
The Men's 1s won 4-2 away to Bournemouth with two goals from Dean Record and the other two coming from Phil Stewart and Graham Garrett-Lang.
The men’s 2s started their post-Christmas match with a home game against promotion seeking Bournemouth. In a closely matched game Bournemouth came out on top 3-2 despite goals from Dan Holding and David Stones. The game was not without incident with Rob Lloyd putting his body on the line and finishing the day in Basingstoke’s A&E department after a reckless piece of play from a Bournemouth forward.
The men's 3s won 5-1 against Basingstoke men's 4s, while the men’s 5s lost 3-1 against Alton 1s. The men’s 6s where no match against Fleet & Eweshot, resulting in a 5-2 loss.
